Therapy and Therapeutic Outreach Service

Our service has been developed to offer emotional health and well-being support to children and young people,
aged 4-25 years old. The service offers support to children on Child in Need or Child Protection Plans and Looked After Children.

This service will:

  • Provide a therapeutic service to children/young people and their parents/carers.
  • Deliver support directly to children and young people through Therapy interventions (not limited to but including Theraplay and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy).
  • Deliver Therapeutic Outreach to children and young people where they are not ‘therapy ready’ or where their Goal Based Outcomes requires a practical approach in the community.
  • Provide advice and support to the professional network around the child/young person.
  • Work with frontline professionals including social workers, residential care staff, education staff, health and nursing professionals, and parents/carers to aid their understanding of how best to support emotional health and well-being needs, develop resilience and identify mental health needs early on.
  • Work with children/young people, their caregivers and relevant professionals to support low/medium level Harmful Sexual Behavioiur (HSB) concerns (excluding AIM assessments, or higher-level interventions recommended by AIM assessments in line with RAG rated criteria agreed with commissioners during mobilisation).
  • Maintain a focus on supporting placement stability through an integrated approach to supporting the child/young person’s emotional health and well-being.
  • Provide an annual training calendar for staff and carers to access, free of charge, to support and upskill therapeutic parenting approaches.
  • Provide a catalogue of resources via a website for children/young people, and their carers, and professional network to access regarding emotional health and well-being.

Who is eligible?

Children and young people will be eligible for support where they have a social worker to make a referral and are:

  • on a Child in Need plan or a child protection plan
  • are in care or care experienced young people up to age 24 and those with a full care order who may be placed with a parent or relative.
  • A current SDQ score that is borderline or above
  • Children and Young People who do not meet the threshold for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).
